Last week, I visited Java Forum Nord, a new conference with 150 participants and 21 talks. It took place in Hannover, Germany. In my understanding, it has been the first regional conference this size and I very much like the thought it hasn't been the last. It was a very nice and (for me) informative conference. I want to thank the organizers for their work and also the speakers for the great lineup. The location right in the center of Hannover has been as awesome as the food.

Last friday, I gave a JavaFX course for some colleagues. As I did with the Java 8 course, I open-sourced all explanations, examples and code samples. They are available at Github. Feel free to use this material for learning or giving a course of your own.

Yesterday, I ended my subscription of the magazine "Auto Motor Sport", one of the big German journals about automotive and racing sports. I will continue reading about automotive topics via a news platform from my employer, but quitting the "Auto Motor Sport" is a nice occasion to write about why you should care about the business of your customer.

One of my more persistent current problems is the setup of JUnit tests in our Hudson 3.1.1. After days of try and error, I still couldn't manage to make it work. This article documents my experiments and will hopefully be updated with the solution one day. If you, the reader of this article, came up with a solution, please contact me or leave a comment. Thanks! Please note that the source/xml listings are prototypic.

The first obvious steps are the setup of the hudson job.

In this article, I want to describe how we managed to switch from Java 6 to Java 7 and get rid of some issues we found along the way. We use Eclipse 4.2.2 and had to change to Java 1.7.0u21. Our system consists of more than 30 eclipse projects that are managed by OSGI.

First, we installed Java 1.7.0u21 and added the JRE to eclipse. Because we cannot be sure that all of our users have a 64 bit system, we use the jre1.7.0_21-windows-i586:
