Lessons Learned + News in February 2021

Posted by Steven

This is what I learned in February 2021:

  1. I installed the app "Voice Notebook" onto my phone. It is a typical speech to text application that let's me create notes with a single tap. In the next weeks, I will test if this app helps me collecting ideas when not being able to write something down. Until now, I used a text based note app for this, but that was not always practical.
  2. Some time ago, I heard about this article about TDD guided by zombies. "Zombies" is an acronym for Zero, One, Many, Boundaries, Interfaces and Exceptions. It is supposed to help with writing tests.
  3. I learned that Gitlab is publishing a lot of great content regarding their company culture. Here is an excessive article about communication, including how to communicate in remote teams. Here is an article about communicating effectively and responsibly through text.
  4. In Spring Web MVC tests, JSON responses can not only be tested by checking the value of specific attributes. Additionally, the size of JSON objects can be tested as shown here.

Books I read: None. Yeah, I do not read much lately.

This is what I'm working on right now / planning to do in the near future / other stuff:

  1. Regarding the book project: I began researching email marketing and will start a newsletter soon.

February is an incredible short month so this is a relatively short update in comparison to the other months.
